Meet the founder: Tony Maleedy from Earthkind
Washing hands: Since the beginning of global pandemic, we have been thinking about it and a sustainable soap manufacturer, Earthkind, follows a science -based approach to free us from germs and make us flash. We talk to the founder of the brand, Tony Maleedy, about inspiring places, mindfulness in the middle of a busy day and why it is not a temporary passion to put the planet in the first place.
What does creativity mean for you? How do you define it? What inspires you to be creative?
“To invent products that are not yet available, a very creative imagination is essential. But as a scientist, it is also important to question all the ideas that you come up with immediately. If the product idea is a" maybe ", try it. If it is impossible, don't waste time with trying. ”
Where do you live at the moment? What does your city offer you as a maker? Are there other places in the world that inspire you, why?
"I live in the country outside of Bath, a very inspiring city. I just have to walk around in Bath to feel inspired. But I can imagine that, like almost everywhere during the pandemic, it was quite depressing during the pandemic to see the streets so empty, but it is certainly uplifting to see how life is back. Italian cities like Rome, Venice or Florence cannot beat.
How did you get into this industry? What was your first job?
"I started an apprenticeship as a hairdresser, but it quickly turned out that I was terrible, but pretty good in the scientific aspects of the profession such as permanent waves or dyeing. My boss at the time, a great man named Pierre Alexandre, noticed this and suggested to study trichology, the science of hair and scalp. After three years, I did this. I qualified for another five years for Philip in his clinics in London and New York before I opened my own clinic in Manchester. ”
Why is it important for consumers to continue looking for careful and integrative brands? Why is a careful and sustainable production important?
"Because we only have one planet - we ignore this fact at our own risk. Regardless of whether it is as small as the throwing of garbage from the car window or the construction of new coal -fired power plants; we have to change our mindset and start to put our beautiful planets in the first place. And this is certain when it comes to the production of products of any kind."
What does yoga mean for you? What are your other preferred ways to move or move alone or with family/friends?
"I cannot say that I am an important part of my daily routine. Sitting for hours in front of my computer screen is important, so it is important to stretch and loosen the trained muscles to give me a new life. To be the green - either a walk in the country with my wife or just a walk into the forest at the foot of our garden.
What is your work uniform? What do you wear if you are not at work?
"At work in the laboratory, I wear a white smock. Because of the pandemic, I have not worn any of my suits for over 18 months. Smart Casual is now my usual kind of clothing."
What gives you energy and keeps you charging?
"A good product idea. If it is feasible, we can implement it!"
Favorite film, book, app, podcast, game at the moment?
"Favorite film: The Shawshank Redemption, because I find it so uplifting towards the end. And who can resist Mozart's music in the middle?
