Life coaching is another modality of mental health therapy. just less intense than traditional psychotherapy. Life coaching is another modality of mental health therapy. just less intense than traditional psychotherapy. When we talk about anxiety, anger management, depression, etc., these are issues that require the services of a psychotherapist to help people feel better in their lives and have better relationships with others. While the process of a person being able to solve these problems is progress in and of itself, it is not progress. Progression means achieving a level of maturity in every facet of one's life, be it a marriage, parenting, or a career. More and more people are recognizing the need to make improvements in all facets of their lives and the need to seek the services of a life coach.
Nothing stays the same forever, and as creatures of habit, we tend to stay in the same patterns of thinking and behavior as circumstances around us change and require a different way of thinking and behavior. It is also not uncommon for people to remain the same despite being caught in an environment that requires new thoughts and behaviors, and they realize that changes are necessary in their lives.
An example of a change that many people struggle with is parenting, such as the need to adjust your parenting style as your child goes through puberty. It is not uncommon for parents to continue to treat, or attempt to treat, their fourteen-year-old as an eleven-year-old until they are hit over the head with the fact that there is a marked distance between them and their child.
Marriage is another example. Your spouse's needs change over the years, and most marital problems arise from one or both spouses trying to achieve the same level of happiness while thinking and behaving in ways that their partner no longer responds to.
Parenting and marriage coaching should not be confused with marriage and family counseling, where the mental health issues of one or more individuals negatively impact the dynamics of the relationship (e.g., physical abuse, sexual abuse, personality disorders, drug and alcohol addiction, etc.).
Life coaching is also particularly effective for career advancement. If you mentally step back and look at our national and global financial crisis, you will see that the demand for certain goods and services has changed. This requires most workers to change the types of goods and services they provide, which in turn requires a change in skills. Most workers who found themselves on the adverse side of the recession knew about the changes they needed to make in their working lives, but none were made because they were intimidated by the idea of change or, more often, didn't know how to change.
Life coaching is not an exotic service reserved for the rich. Enlisting the services of a professional life coach is a wise investment that anyone can make in their life.
