Studio of the month: Core Clapton
Core Clapton is more than just a yoga studio! As a charity, osteopath clinic, event room and common room, we love everything you stand for at Yogamatters. After organizing our Urban Retreat with Ekhart Yoga at Core last year, we were thrilled to be back and recently used the beautiful main hall for a photo shoot. We talked to the founder and CEO of Core, Danny Orchard, about what Core is about. Read on to learn more about Core and get an insight into the beautiful pictures of the yoga matt and Gossypium recordings.
Do you tell us everything about what Core Clapton is and what you stand for?
Core Clapton is a charity and was founded in 2017 with the aim of making osteopathy and wellness accessible to everyone, regardless of their income. Core stands for the Center for Osteopathic Research and Excellence, which indicates our secondary goal, namely the investigation of the positive effects of osteopathy on the lives of people, especially people with chronic pain. Ultimately, we believe that everyone has the right to a pain -free life and we want to make osteopathy accessible to everyone.
Instead of being dependent on grants and donations (which we gratefully accept), our business model is based on invoicing normal high street prices for osteopathy, therapies and courses and renting our beautiful event space in order to subsidize wellness for people with low income and universal credit.
What was your vision when you created Core Clapton and did this come to light?
I came up with the idea when I worked for Goldman Sachs as an in -house osteopath. The employees would crawl to me from their desks and I would treat them and allow them to go back to work immediately. At the same time, however, the NHS refused to occupy osteopaths because it was believed that most of the pain spontaneously disappeared when there is a matter of time. This seemed strange to me, since chronic pain has increased exponentially in the past decades and are now 1 out of 3 of the adult population. And if Goldmans recognized the advantage of osteopathy to quickly get his employees back to work, why shouldn't those who need the most urgent, the underfunded sectors of our community, should not have the same chance? It was thanks to the support of one of my patients, Bobby Vedral, who was then a partner at the time and gave the first start -up capital financing for the development of the charity. After three years we saw over 2,000 patients, 50% of whom were subsidized by our "Robin Hood" price model. We now also receive more recommendations from local general practitioners and social doctors who see osteopathy as a way to free people from pain relievers and bring them back to things that they enjoy.
We know that the core is much more than a yoga studio. How do you help your local community?
In addition to yoga and Pilates, we also offer some really interesting courses for the local community. Social singing on a Friday is great because it brings together a group of people between the generations to improve their well -being through group singing. However, we mainly help the municipality by trying to reduce the burden of chronic pain from patient to patient and to show the medical facility that so -called additional treatments can sometimes be life -changing.
We love your bright and versatile studio on the upper floor. What do you love most about this room?
My favorite aspect is the beautiful Edwardian blanket with barrel vaults, which really emphasizes the room and highlights the amazing light of all original sliding windows. Everyone is always so surprised when they leave the street and enters the main hall. People literally do not expect to see such a amazing space in the depths of hackney.
Core Clapton is a registered charity organization, and we know that they do incredible work. How can others best support and support?
by simply using our services, be it for osteopathy, wellness or renting our space for a photo shoot, you can help finance our charity organization and to support them less luckily. We would also be very happy to receive donations of any size that would help you to continue to provide our services. You can visit our JustGiving page to find out more here.
What is your vision for the future?
My vision for Core is that it will be the contact point for wellness in East London. And to see osteopathy on the NHS across the country.
