Aromatherapy in Turkey: Popular, but who really uses it?
aromatherapy, an alternative healing method based on the use of essential oils, is becoming increasingly important in society. A study carried out in Turkey aims to examine the attitude and thoughts of the people for aromatherapy and find out which factors influence the use of this form of therapy. The study, in which 985 questionnaires were evaluated, shows that about 72.4% of the participants have already heard of aromatherapy. Women, residents of provinces or districts and people with income in particular are significantly familiar with the concept of aromatherapy.
Almost 59% of those surveyed have already stated that they have already used essential oils, with lavender, tea tree, peppermint, rose and thyme being used most frequently. Women use essential oils more often than men. According to the respondents, the main areas of application of these oils are the improvement of the complexion, the treatment of skin and respiratory diseases. The Internet and social media and pharmacist are mainly used as sources of information about essential oils.
The results of this study indicate that awareness and use of aromatherapy are high in the community. In view of the tendency in public to use these products, advice from experts such as doctors, pharmacists and nurses are gaining in importance. This development could lead to a change in the previous practice by placing more emphasis on advice on the safe and effective use of aromatherapy products.
