Body psychotherapy - Questions about scientific validity - Part II

In Europe, to be recognized as “scientific,” all psychotherapy questions must answer the 15 questions (see Part I of this article). However, in the United States, body psychotherapy is still viewed as skewed by many traditional psychotherapists. They fail to realize that body psychotherapists are uniquely trained and highly skilled practitioners who have in-depth knowledge of the mind-body-spirit connection.

Below you will find an answer to question 13.

13. Please provide evidence that your approach describes and demonstrates a coherent strategy for understanding human problems and an explicit relationship between treatment/intervention methods and outcomes.

“Although each modality of body psychotherapy may use a different specific strategy, there are some elements common to the entire field.

– 1. Observation of the body to determine the physiological basis of neurotic and psychotic character structures and emotional patterns.

– 2. Touch the body in specific ways to loosen body armor, release neuromuscular tension and promote less restriction of movement.

– 3. Triggering verbal responses and emotional catharsis as the body releases habitual patterns of tension associated with memories and mental blocks.

– 4. Partnership between the body psychotherapy practitioner and the body psychotherapy client/patient in interpreting and evaluating the meaning of verbal, emotional and imaginative responses.

These strategies are believed to lead to greater wholeness and overall integration, as can be seen for the following reasons:

– 5. Patients/subjects of body psychotherapy develop a more coherent, coherent and integrated self-awareness that is better able to cope with life.

– 6. Patients of body psychotherapy gain control over their emotions, concentrate on their goals and fulfill life tasks with new energy, strength and self-confidence.

– 7. Body psychotherapy clients/patients learn to confront and treat their emerging problems, communicate authentically with peers, co-workers, friends and family, and thereby develop more fulfilling and satisfying relationships, including marital and other intimate romantic relationships. “

These are just a few examples of how body psychotherapy understands human problems and develops coherent strategies for specific outcomes.
