Climate change is a global problem that requires a global solution. To combat climate change, we must therefore use all the tools at our disposal, including renewable energies.

Renewable Energy: Definition and Types

Renewable energies, also known as regenerative or green energies, come from sources that are naturally renewable or regularly generated by nature. In contrast to fossil energies such as coal, natural gas and oil, renewable energies are available in unlimited quantities and therefore cannot be used up.

The main types of renewable energy include:

Solar power

Solar power is generated by converting solar energy into electricity or heat. Solar thermal systems use the sun's heat to heat water, while photovoltaic systems (PV) on house roofs or in large solar parks generate electricity.

Wind power

Wind energy is generated by using the movement of the wind to generate electricity. This is mainly done by wind turbines that are installed in windy areas.

Hydropower

Hydroelectric power plants generate energy by harnessing the energy of flowing or falling water. It is one of the oldest and most widespread forms of renewable energy.
