Pandemic magic

I can't lie around any longer. I'm never fully awake or asleep. For a recovering addict, boredom is my enemy. I need projects and goals to maintain productivity in my day. Without a sense of accomplishment, my days feel hollow.

Tomorrow I will plant my first victory garden. All the neighbors do one. I am the rare newbie but willing to learn. Today I learned that saving human hair clippings and spreading them around the garden keeps animals away due to the human smell which scares them.

I made friends in a new area, which is always tricky because I'm so obviously "not from here." Just the mention of the “C” word produces many groans of despair that such lunatics are allowed to breathe our Texas air. California represents everything Texas is not. Everyone is perfect in their own way, but no one is fulfilled in the long term.

Artists and oddballs gravitate toward the West Coast. Not sure why. Perhaps the sun or the early days of Hollywood still draws Lost Angels to the land of light and glitter. Everything is based on good health, while the Midwest doesn't seem to care. The little “healthy nut shacks” in some stores reflect how strange our way of eating is.

Perhaps the history of Native Americans or nearby reservations brings to life such ancient ways as herbal healing, ritual healing for men in sweat lodges, and certain blessing ceremonies involving sage and sweet grass. PTSD treatments were discussed when I left the mountain a marked success.

Tribal ways versus Western ways often clash. One difference between Texas and California is reaching for an herbal remedy like cranberry juice or echinacea first. Acupuncture is wonderful and they are common. After a 20-minute treatment, you were in a relaxed, peaceful state for approximately 24 hours.

In Texas, people interact with more animals. Of course it's cattle country, but domestic animals abound. There are so many strays here that I've made it my goal to control the very area I'm in. I think there were 10 cats before one recently had 8 kittens.

Three stray dogs appeared in Piney Woods in recent months, one was brought to the shelter before the virus closed them. The other two are still hanging around. One is a good animal and I bring her in. She is a Rottweiler with an intact tail. Her name is Lady.

I can hardly wait for these quarantine to produce miracles who make the world healthy and healthy again. Let the species regenerate, renew the forests and become clear. When the ozone hole closes, we will all breathe in its light, magic and mind. He will walk among us while we all embody it. He lives in us.
