What is gray hair?
Gray hair is a visible sign of aging and a natural part of getting older. It means a mixture of white hair mixed with black hair, creating the gray appearance of hair also known as salt and pepper on the scalp. It is hair with little or no pigment and where light reflects after falling on the hair, causing it to appear gray. Many of us might have gray hair. From the first time a person notices a clump of gray hair, it can take about ten years for all the hair on the head to turn gray.
It is said that gray hair emerges as a feature that comes with wisdom acquired over the centuries. Gray hair is not a cause for concern, however, if hair graying occurs prematurely, it is advisable to consult your dermatologist.

What are the causes of gray hair?
Each strand of hair consists of two parts, a shaft and a root. The root of each hair strand is surrounded by the hair follicles beneath the skin that contains itMelanocytes. Melanocytes are pigment cells that constantly produce a chemical known as melanin.
Hair has two types of melanin pigments: the darker one is called eumelanin and the lighter one is called pheomelanin. Both mix to create a wide range of natural hair colors. The melanin pigment is responsible for the hair color being brown, blonde, black, red and any other hair color. It is responsible for the graying of hair and for the light or dark color of the skin. The darker or lighter character of the hair is determined by the amount of melanin present on the hair follicle.
The melanocyte pigment cells in hair follicles gradually die as we age. With fewer pigment cells in the hair follicle and ultimately a lower amount of melanin, the strand becomes more transparent - like gray, silver or white - as it grows. As senescence approaches, the hair eventually appears completely gray.
Harvard scientists have suggested that hair graying occurs due to the failure of melanocyte stem cells (MSCs) to maintain sufficient production of melanocytes. This error can lead to a loss of signals, which maintains the darkness of the hair and therefore causes the hair to turn gray. The failure of melanocyte stem cells in premature graying of hair can be both age-related and genetic.
However, in some cases, gray hair is not necessarily a sign of aging. People can get gray hair at any age, and it mainly depends on genetics and hereditary causes. Some people may begin to experience gray hair in their teens or early twenties, while others may see their first gray hair in their early 30s or 40s. Because the age of hair graying depends on genes, most people begin graying at about the same age as their parents or grandparents.
Other causes of graying hair depend on hormones, the climate of the home country, pollutants, exposure to chemicals and toxins. It has also been suggested that a chemical called hydrogen peroxide gradually builds up over the hair shaft, causing loss of natural hair color over time.
What are the home remedies to delay gray hair?
Why do we need to color our hair with artificial hair colors and expose our hair to harmful chemicals that can cause hair quality deterioration and hair loss when we can protect and care for our hair with basic ingredients in our homes? Diets to reverse gray hair
Foods containing catalase
Catalase is an antioxidant found in the cells of all plants and animals. It removes the hydrogen peroxide in our hair follicles that builds up over the hair shaft and causes loss of natural hair color by breaking down the pigments in the hair.
Hydrogen peroxide, a naturally occurring waste product of the metabolic process, is believed to contribute significantly to the breakdown of pigments in the hair. As we age, our bodies produce less catalase, which leads to a buildup of hydrogen peroxide in our hair follicles - bleaching the hair follicles from the inside out.
Regularly consuming foods high in catalase such as garlic, onions, cauliflower, potatoes, broccoli, kale and cabbage can help in the gradual return of your natural hair color.
copper
According to a study, low copper levels in the body can lead to premature graying of hair. Incorporating foods high in copper into your diet can help reduce premature graying of hair. Asparagus, sesame seeds, spinach, cashews, shiitake mushrooms and soybeans are all naturally occurring sources of copper.
Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 deficiency is also known to be associated with premature graying of hair. The deficiency can be corrected by consuming foods rich in vitamin B-12 such as salmon, sardines, tuna, lamb, beef, eggs and milk.
