While doing MBBS, I was exposed to all sorts of disease conditions and their “modern treatment systems”. 'Treatments' that could themselves cause all sorts of diseases, and then their treatment... the cycle continues. There is a certain level of disillusionment because when you enter medical school you expect to be miraculously transformed into some sort of healing machine. Even after years of research, medical practice remains hit and trial, at least in small centers.
I am not suggesting that allopaths or the modern medical system as we know it are ineffective. In fact, thanks to this constantly evolving system, we have been able to reduce morbidity and mortality, prevent the spread of epidemics, and so on. I'm talking about the inability to comprehensively and effectively address chronic diseases such as osteoarthritis, autoimmune diseases, metabolic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, etc. For these diseases, allopathic treatment remains suppressive, not curative, and the medication sometimes has effects worse than disease!
I believe the answer lies in preventative medicine. Preventive medicine is a general term for a variety of things, ranging simply from adopting a healthier lifestyle, regular exercise, not smoking, etc., to more complex specific preventions such as observing certain fasts or specific diet plans for various diseases.
In addition to prevention, a holistic treatment approach should be practiced that combines the other treatment branches such as naturopathy, Ayurveda, Reiki, acupuncture, etc.
